Advani Exhorts Muslims to Fight Terror With Education

Posing a liberal face before a delegation of Muslims from Jodhpur, BJP leader L K Advani called on Muslims to work hand in hand and united in the fight against terrorism. He asked the minority community leaders for ensuring better education and literacy among the community for effecting a better understanding of the menace disturbing the social fabric of the country.

Earlier, a delegation led by Ayyub Sahib, the Shehr Qazi of Jodhpur, accompanied by former deputy chairperson of Rajya Sabha, Najma Heptullah met Advani expressing its opposition to terrorism in the name of religion. Party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said that calling the community to work hand in hand to fight terrorism Advani stressed the need for better education and literacy among the Muslim community which act as a strong deterrence to terror.

Speaking at the same occasion, Heptullah said, We feel that some people in the community are bringing a bad name to the whole religion. This unguided lot of men are a result of poverty for which the fifty years of Congress rule in the country is directly responsible. Ayyub Sahib said that the muslims of Jodhpur kept Eid to be a low-key affair as a mark of respect to the victims of Chmunda Devi temple stampede. The Muslims offered special prayer for the victims of the tragedy, Ayyub Sahib added.

Advani’s suggestion to the delegation of the community betrays his own thinking about the terrorism vis-a-vis muslims in India for the simple fact that uneducated and illiterate muslims are largely aloof from the influence of the philosophy of terrorism. His presumptions, as it appears, that terrorism is the product of communalism.

While even an uneducated person in India might display communal trend of behaviour but till now only educated and highly qualified people have been instrument of terrorism in India. Senior leaders of India including Advani must not forget this simple fact. Terrorism is a political philosophy and religion is being used only as validating instrument.
